Let's Talk About Legacy, Senator McConnell

Dear Senator McConnell:

Legacy:  something transmitted by or received from an ancestor or predecessor or from the past legacy of the ancient philosophers>

Thirty years is a long enough pattern to become legacy. When looking at your thirty years in office and focusing, as most people will, on the years since 2007 when you became the Minority Leader in the Senate, your legacy should not make you (or your children and grandchildren who will have to live with it) proud. You will be remembered mostly for your vow to make President Obama a one-term President, with no concern for how badly your attempts to do that harmed the residents of Kentucky, the nation, and the world. You will also be remembered for your pork, which you bragged about for years until your party decided it was a terrible, horrible, must-be-stopped-and-criticized-forever activity. Your filibuster record, including the fact that you are the only Senator to filibuster his own bill, will most surely brighten up a few history classes.

Regardless of the something a voter considers important, you have left the majority of us with less than we had before – exactly like the parent who dies and leaves his children with more overdue bills than assets.

We have fewer jobs. People work harder for lower wages, and each dollar buys less than it did when you came into office. Many people lost their homes and their health care, and are unable to feed themselves and their families. When given an opportunity to vote for something that helps, you consistently refuse to help. Even if it were true that the majority were doing better (and that is not true), ignoring the people who are hurting the worst is inexcusable. Inhumane disregard for those in need will be your legacy. I will help keep that legacy alive for you as long as I can and then ask my grandchildren to continue for me.

Unfortunately for you, regardless of party affiliation/registration, most of us would say we have lost rights during your leadership. Your side screams about being persecuted Christians who are no longer able to pray in school and plaster the commandments they can’t remember on every public space so they’ll never forget to ignore them in public. They mourn the fact that their party has not delivered the theocracy they want, that big brother is watching over home-grown terrorist groups/militias, that they might possibly be close to losing the right to be armed and ready to kill in the grocery and daycare. They are fearful that they might be forced to work somewhere that won’t cause them to have black lung, and that a same-sex couple will get married and cause their spouses to abandon them. Both sides are angry about feeling spied on. Failure to protect our rights will be your legacy (Remember
which you introduced but tried to squirrel away from?).

You are in a no-win legacy position, Senator. Your destruction makes you a loser from my proud liberal perspective. The fact that you didn’t destroy this country quite enough makes you unpopular on your own side. If I were you, I’d wish I had been a one-term Senator.

You still have a month to change all of this. You could admit the truth, apologize, and resign. I would remember you quite differently and bet others would, too.

If not for yourself, you might want to consider your party. If, by chance, you care about anything other than yourself. In the thirty years that you have been in office, your party has been circling the bowl. Making that last-ditch-effort change might encourage others in your party to do the same before the final flush. (Food for thought doesn’t really work here, but you get the idea.)

This is what a winning legacy looks like: Ted Kennedy

Next Up: Getting Rid of Mitch McConnell

I started this campaign the day after Mitch McConnell barely won his last race. Now that we have the 2012 election behind us, we can focus our attention on this important goal.

I was prepared to beg George Clooney to come home and run against Mitch in 2016. And then, I met someone else who I thought could easily beat Senator McConnell. This man is intelligent, one of the most dynamic speakers I’ve ever heard, and so charismatic that everyone who meets him falls instantly in love with him. But he didn’t think it was the right time for him. Now, there’s talk of Ashley Judd running and that puts a smile on my face.

There is also talk of the Republican Party trying to run McConnell out. His sudden cozying up to people who self-identify as Tea Party adds credibility to that rumor and makes me wonder if they will primary him.

No matter who runs against Mitch McConnell, they will be better for my state, this country, and the world than Mitch McConnell. We sane Kentuckians are going to need all the help we can get because the Republican Party will pump this race full of dirty money, and McConnell’s name recognition goes a long way with lazy voters who don’t bother or are unable to research and see the damage he has done. (Ashley might help in this regard.)

I created a Facebook Group dedicated to keeping people informed about McConnell’s actions (or inactions, as is mostly the case) between now and election 2016, and to motivate people who are interested in campaigning against him. If interested, you can join here.  Just remember, this is a totally biased group with a specific purpose. Anyone who supports Mitch McConnell, harasses those who are working to unseat him, or posts articles or links that are not related to the ugliness of Mitch McConnell will be removed and blocked.

Hope to see you there.

Top GOP Senator Mitch McConnell Defends Mourdock’s ‘Gift From God’ Statement

Dear Senator McConnell:

I'm sure you probably know by now that I'm not much of a prayer, especially when it comes to praying for others. I think for the most part it is presumptuous to believe that any god would honor my request over that of the person I'm asked to pray for.

I'm ready to make an exception for you, and your Republican friends who believe that pregnancy as a result of rape is a gift from your crazy god. Soon as I get through typing this note to you, I'm going to hit my knees and pray that your god will bless you with a horribly painful rape of you own, followed by a complicated pregnancy so you'll also be able to brag about the miracle.

I would also like to remind you that abortion is legal, on demand. We do not have to be raped or dying, or seek permission or blessings from you or anyone else in order to elect to have this LEGAL PROCEDURE. I'm disgusted by the way your party keeps trying to confuse and dilute this truth (as well as many others).

Here's a link to the article that set me off this time:

Top GOP Senator Mitch McConnell Defends Mourdock’s ‘Gift From God’ Statement
: pSenate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is the latest senior Republican defending Indiana Republican Senate candidate Richard Mourdock’s statement that forced pregnancy from rape is a “gift from God.” McConnell released a statement charging that opponents “make hay out of every comment,” and that “sharing the view of millions of Americans that life begins at conception [...]/p

Your Replacement, Senator McConnell

Dear Senator McConnell:

I am thrilled to introduce you to your replacement, who is everything you are not - honest, well-spoken, charismatic, young, exciting, informed, extremely well liked by everyone who meets him, pro people (boy, is that a selling point), able to read and comprehend 1,000 double-spaced, wide-margined pages without even needing a vacation in which to do so, motivating, trustworthy, and intelligent. I know it isn't nice to leave you hanging without a name, since there might be several people in the state who share these qualities. He just hasn't agreed to do this yet. Since I publish my letters to you, I'm putting this out to encourage others to look for someone they think would best represent The American People and let them know we will support them.

Sandy

p.s. Still enjoying 2012 immensely. Laughter is the best medicine so you and the circus also known as the Republican Primary race have nearly healed me.

75% Constitutes THE American People

Senator McConnell:

Once again, you either don't understand or you lie. I'm guessing a little of each, which makes you unfit for your position. When the polls show that 75% of the people support something, you don't get to lie and/or pretend that you know better what they think.

The American People DO think it is time to tax the top 2%. Don't tell us what you "think" we want. Listen to what we tell you we want. The time you spent during break was only with your supporters, in private places. Don't pretend that you were out talking to the masses because that is not true.

This quote misrepresents me, a constituent, and 75% of the American people. You owe us an apology and an honest statement, in public.

“Yeah, these bills are designed on purpose not to pass,” McConnell asserted. “I mean, the president is deliberately trying to create an issue here. Look, the American people don’t think, I’m sure, that it’s a good idea. Four out of five of the so-called millionaires are business owners, over 300,000 small businesses in our country that hire people. I don’t think the American people think that raising taxes on business, small business in the middle of this economic situation we find ourselves in is a particularly good idea.”

What do you mean "so-called" millionaires? Are you implying that someone has suggested people who are not millionaires will be taxed as millionaires? What makes you think/say that? And why would you say that these bills are designed on purpose not to pass? That is not true. They were designed to pass and 75% of the people want them to pass. You chose to ignore 75% of the people to pursue your own agenda of obstruction and destruction.

You might think police, firefighter, and teacher layoffs aren't your problem now. I bet they will be your problem when re-election comes around.

Rest of the story and video here.
